Title: John Oscar Siren with wife Sophia and child.

Date: [ca. 1900-1919]

Remarks: Finnish settlers who emigrated first to Minnesota, then to Radway, Alberta. John was the first Finn in the area and wrote extensively for the foreign language press, making him largely responsible for the establishment of a Finnish community at Radway.

Remarks: L-R: Olga Kunnas; Nestor Kunnas; Paul Kunnas.
Nestor emigrated from Finland to the United States in 1905, and in 1909 filed a homestead in Radway area. He was very active in community affairs, and became postmaster in 1927. Paul later became postmaster from 1948-1973.

Title: Alex Heikkila and Axel Erkkila, Kuortane, Finland.

Date: 1922

Remarks: This photograph was used for passport pictures when the two travelled together to Canada in 1923. Heikkila went to Trochu, Alberta where he had a successful farm. Erkkila stayed in Timmons, Ontario where worked in the mines before returning to Finland.
