Title: New IBM 705 computer installed at Imperial Oil Limited head office, 111 St. Claire, Toronto, Ontario.

Date: November 19, 1959

Photographer/Illustrator: Vickers, Roy, Toronto, Ontario

Remarks: Published in Globe and Mail November 20, 1959. Caption reads: "Computer plays music when Larry Thomas feeds these punch cards to the giant new electronic 'brain' which Imperial Oil has just installed in its Toronto executive office. The IBM 705 - one of the largest commercial models in use today - played a couple of tunes at its opening ceremony yesterday while a choir of 25 employees joined in. Thomas wrote songs specially for the opening, and the computer played them in flute-like organ tones, amplified from its own inner electronic impulses. These choristers are, from left, Margaret Houghton, Mrs. Muriel Hamilton, Norma Brown, Mrs. Margaret Simpson, and Doris Bishop."
