Emma Griffis trained at the General Hospital on 12th Avenue East and was placed in charge of the typhoid ward when the new General Hospital was opened in 1910.

Major McGill enlisted with 31st Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1914 and commanded 5th Canadian Field Ambulance Corps in 1917. He received the Military Cross for service in France.
