History:
Alpha Iota is an International Honorary Business Sorority with active and alumnae chapters located across the United States and Canada. It began as a local club, organized in 1925 by Mrs. Elsie M. Fenton to promote friendship among the students of the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. The club was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1930 and soon began establishing local chapters in business schools and colleges throughout North America, grouped into geographical areas with a National Councilor for each division. The first Canadian chapter, Chi Alpha, was established in 1935 at the Angus School of Commerce in Winnipeg. The fourth Canadian chapter, Chi Delta, was established in Calgary at the Henderson Secretarial School. Local graduates established the Calgary Alumnae Chapter on April 28, 1948. The chapter disbanded sometime after 1966.
