The Sierra Club of Alberta was established in 1969 as a branch of the Sierra Club based in San Francisco, California, USA. In 1980 the Sierra Club of Western Canada in Calgary, Alberta interviewed early guides, outfitters and pioneers regarding the history of trails and their activities in the foothills and mountains. The information collected was used in a book Hiking Alberta's Southwest / Joey Ambrosi. - Vancouver : Douglas & McIntyre, 1984, and an exhibition, "Historic Trails of Alberta's South-West".
