Paul Farnalls, 1879-1974, was born in Pennsylvania, USA, and came with his parents to homestead near Halkirk, Alberta in 1905. He farmed there most of his life. In 1909 he married a Pennsylvania friend, Katherine, ?-1960, and after her death married Frances Hunt, ?-1971, in 1965. He was very involved in local affairs, serving as a school secretary and trustee for 29 years and as a municipal councillor for 27 years. From 1934 to 1943 he was president of the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts, during which time he met many farm and political leaders throughout Canada. Politically he was a Liberal. He was a member of many bodies including the Alberta Hail Insurance Board, the Agricultural Sub-Committee of the Post War Reconstruction Committee and the Producer Advisory Committee of the Canadian Wheat Board. He was a Canadian representative at the International Wheat Conference in Washington, 1948-1949. He was the author of Memoirs of Life in Alberta. -- Edmonton : Commercial Printers, 1960.
Scope and Content:
The fonds consists of correspondence about personal, agricultural, municipal and political affairs (1926-1961); president's addresses to AAMD (1934-1943); and speeches, radio broadcasts and articles on agricultural and political topics (1938-1946).
