History: The Lunchbox Theatre Society is a non-profit theatre company located in Bow Valley Square in Calgary, Alberta. It was founded in 1975 by Bartley Bard, Margaret Bard and Betty Gibb for the purpose of producing one-act plays and revues to be performed during the noon hour for a primary audience of office workers and shoppers in the downtown area. Bartley Bard was the Artistic Director of Lunchbox Theatre for 25 years until his retirement at the end of the 1998/99 Season. In 1988, Lunchbox Theatre partnered with Petro-Canada to sponsor an annual nation-wide competition to commission the writing of new Canadian plays.
Scope and Content: The fonds consists of administrative and operational records of Lunchbox Theatre during its first 25 years. Primary series include incorporation documents and historical information, financial statements, minutes, publicity, production records and records relating to Stage One - The Petro-Canada Plays.
