Physical Description: 3 m of textual records. -- 37 posters
History: Decidedly Jazz Danceworks was originally conceived in November 1984 when dancers Michelle Moss and Hannah Stilwell proposed to Vicki Adams Willis, then head of the jazz division of the Program of Dance at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, that they establish a jazz dance troupe. DJD was incorporated on March 27, 1984, with Willis as artistic director. Its objective is "to create an awareness of and encourage respect for the integrity and traditions of jazz through dance performance and education." By 1991 the company had staged 55 performances and operated a dance school for nearly 500 students. It raises funds through gate receipts, the school, the annual "Black and White Big Band Benefit Ball", and arts grants. Originally housed on 10th Street NW, Calgary, DJD moved into larger quarters at 1514-4th Street SW in 1994.
