The Calgary Sketch Club was formed in 1931 under the leadership of Mr. A.C. Leighton, head of the Art Department at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (now Alberta College of Art), although predecessor groups were formed as early as 1909. It was incorporated in 1939. The Calgary Art Club merged with the Calgary Sketch Club under the latter's name. Club members consist of non-professional and professional artists.
