The Calgary Jewish Academy of Calgary, Alberta resulted from a merger of the Calgary Hebrew School and the I.L. Peretz School in 1987. The former was established in 1910 and the latter in 1928 to provide Hebrew and Yiddish education for Calgary Jewish children. The Hebrew school was first housed in the House of Jacob synagogue and moved to new quarters in 1920, 1930, 1949 and 1959.
Scope and Content:
The fonds consists of I.L. Peretz School minutes (1928-1929, 1936-1937, 1947-1957), correspondence (1930-1962), ledger (1928-1931), scrapbook (1930s-1960s) and miscellany (1959-1970s); Calgary Hebrew School minutes (1961-1976) and class registers (1971-1980); and various awards presented to both schools.

Other records of the Calgary Jewish Academy and its predecessors are held by the Jewish Historical Society of Southern Alberta.
There are related records in the A.I. Shumiatcher fonds at Glenbow including legal records dealing with the Peretz School (1929-1971) and similar records for the Hebrew School (1920-1950). The latter includes the minutes from 1937 to 1948.
