History: The Alberta Light Horse Association was formed in Calgary, Alberta in 1943 and staged its first horse show in 1944. The competitions featured both English and Western riding until the 1970s when the latter was discontinued. The shows were held in many venues in Calgary until moving to the Millarville area. Many well-known riders including Juliet Graham, Barbara Simpson-Kerr, John Simpson, Gail Ross, Mark Laskin, Linda Southern, Nancy Southern and Alan Brand, benefitted from their association with the organization. ALHA was affiliated with the Alberta Equestrian Federation. It wound up in 2001.
Scope and Content: The fonds consists of board minutes (1972-2001), annual general meeting proceedings (1969-2000), newletters (1958-1972), scrapbooks of newspaper clippings and photographs (1939-2001), and programs of horse shows (1942-1999).
