Better Business Bureau Calgary fonds

[ca. 1947-2010]

Physical Description:
ca. 3 m of textual and other records

The Better Business Bureau was founded in the United States in 1912. It is an organization focused on advancing marketplace trust and provides free business reviews on request by consumers. The Bureau also serves as an intermediary between consumers and businesses, handling thousands of consumer disputes against businesses each year. Large numbers of businesses in every BBB community support the organization. Each Bureau is independently governed by their own board of directors but must meet international standards. The Bureau in Calgary was incorporated in 1954 through the efforts of the Kiwanis Club and local business leaders. The Winnipeg Bureau offered its services to help establish an office and Allan Rose from Montreal became the first manager. In 2009 Calgary's territory expanded to include the southern half of the province and the east Kootenay region of British Columbia; offices were established in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.
