History:
Verne Dusenberry, 1906-1966, was born in Corning, Iowa, USA but grew up in Bozeman, Montana. In 1927 he received a BSc degree from Montana State College. His early career involved teaching English in high schools, but in 1935 he began to have extensive contacts with the native people of Montana. He taught English at Dawson College, Montana State College and Northern Montana College while undertaking extensive research on native culture. In 1956 he began advanced studies in anthropology at the University of Montana culminating in a PhD from the University of Stockholm in 1962. He taught at the University of Montana until 1964 when he became director of the Indian Studies Institute at the Glenbow Foundation in Calgary, Alberta. He published papers on the Rocky Boy, Northern Cheyenne, Pend d'Oreille, Assiniboine and Montana Cree. He had at least one daughter. For further information see Merrill G. Burlingame's article, "J. Custodial History:
The Glenbow was given some of the material by V. Dusenberry before his death, but borrowed most of the records from Verne's daughter to microfilm and copy. They were subsequently stolen from the house.

Scope and Content:
The fonds consists of research materials on the Cree, Cheyenne, Assiniboine, Kootenay, Flathead and Pend d'Oreille. Includes photographs of Cree and Kootenay.
