The Women's League of the Calgary Philharmonic Society was started in Calgary, Alberta in 1955 to raise money for the orchestra, and to offer scholarships and music education programs. The biggest fund-raising event of the League year was the annual Benny the Bookworm Sale which the group organized for 50 years, 1959-2010. The group also presented two $1000 scholarships annually, the Olga Nickle Memorial Scholarship and the Women's League Scholarship. The League folded in 1990.
Scope and Content:
The fonds consists of minutes, correspondence, financial records related to their fundraising efforts (especially the Benny the Bookworm sale), membership lists, newsletters and photographs.
