History: Sexual Health Access Alberta was established in 1975 as the Alberta Family Planning Association but a year later assumed the name Planned Parenthood Alberta. Its objectives were to support reproductive choice and sexual health for all Albertans. In 2006 the name was changed to Sexual Health Access Alberta. Throughout its history the organization depended heavily on individual donors for survival but also accessed government and corporate funding of various kinds and also generated earned income. In the early years the provision of health information, education and services was the work of volunteers but later from one to three staff were hired. Among the organizations major accomplishments were the Sexual Health Resource Centre, the provision of information in the online world and the booklet It's Easier than you Think: talking with your children about sexual health and wellbeing. SHAA was also a strong pro-choice advocate throughout its history. In July 2010 the organization was dissolved.
