Rockyview School Division No. 41 fonds
13 m of textual records. -- 3 microfilm reels. -- 18 photographs
The Alberta school districts which eventually came together to form the Rockyview School Division were established between 1887, when the Springbank School District No. 100 was organized, and 1939. Many were formed around the time of the first world war. In the 1920s, some of the districts banded together to establish a high school. The division, originally called the Calgary School Division No. 38 (later No. 41), was organized in 1938 from school districts surrounding Calgary. Crossfield and Airdrie schools did not join the division until 1943 and 1945 respectively. A number of the school districts which were part of the division in 1938 were later included in the Foothills School Division. In 1949, schools in the southeast portion of the division consolidated into a larger school at Indus. Schools in the northeast part of the division were under the Wheatland School Division until 1954. As Calgary expanded, school districts near the city were dissolved and schooling made the responsibility of the Calgary Board of Education. As mobility increased, the smaller schools closed and new ones were established in larger towns. The division's name was changed to Rockyview in 1977.
The bulk of the records were in the custody of the division but records were also held by members of local school boards: Bearspaw, Bow River, Brushy Ridge, Cochrane Lake, Columbia, Delewere, Elbow River, Glenbow, Glendale, Grand Valley, Langdon, Little Jumping Pound, Springbank and Strathmead.
