Title:
Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta fonds

Date(s):
1933-1985, predominant 1955-1969

Physical Description:

History:
The Conservative Party in Alberta was well-organized by 1909, when a provincial convention was held in Red Deer. Around 1942 it adopted the name Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta. The association's aims are to promote the interests of the Progressive Conservative Party in Canada, and to assist in nominating and supporting Alberta PC candidates in federal and provincial elections. PCAA has been affiliated with many local PC organizations. It became very active in the 1950s, when Pansy Pue was secretary. The Progressive Conservative party, however, remained a very minor player in provincial politics until 1967, when Peter Lougheed became leader. The Conservatives first came to power in Alberta in 1971, and still formed the government in 2014.
