Maxwell Laurence Foran, 1935- , was born and educated in Sydney, Australia. He moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1963 and married Heather MacEwan, 1939-2017, the daughter of Grant and Phyllis MacEwan. They had two daughters, Lynwyn and Fiona. He taught for the Calgary Board of Education beginning in 1963 and became the principal of Midnapore School. He received his MA and PhD degrees in history from the University of Calgary and later became a professor at the same university. A specialist in Calgary history, he has written many books and articles about the city, and vignettes about the Calgary Board of Education for radio broadcasts.

Scope and Content:
The fonds consists of drafts of books and articles; MA thesis and PhD dissertation; scripts for Calgary Board of Education broadcasts; and miscellaneous reference material. Includes interviews, conducted as part of his research, with Slim Sonnie, Dr. Robert Warren, Hugh Bryan, Mabel Barker, John Mayell and Bill Renard.
