The Glenbow Archives gathered this material for reference and display purposes. It relates to Louis Riel, 1844-1885, Metis leader and founder of Manitoba, and to the Riel Rebellions of 1869-1870 and 1885.
Scope and Content:
The collection consists of scrapbook of broadsides printed by James Ross regarding Red River (1869-1870); essay of stamp attributed to provisional government (1869); Samuel Plunkett's letters and photographs regarding the Rebellion (1885-1946); reproduction of Riel letter (1912); copy of list of rights published by Provisional Government (1869-1870); copy of letter to Dr. R. Fiset regarding Rebellion (1885); copy of notices to inhabitants of Red River and Rupertsland (1869-1870); genealogical data on Riel family (1969); correspondence regarding Riel's coffin (1935); and published collection of documents regarding Riel's life (1967).
