Lewis Burke and John Burke fonds

John Joseph Burke, 1890-1968, was born in Liverpool, England. He settled first in Montreal and then in Vancouver ca. 1915. He was married to Anna Lillian "Lily" Eldred. He served in Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry during First World War, and with the Irish Fusiliers of Canada, 1921-1939. During the Second World War he served in Canada, in Military District Eleven. His son, Lewis Frederick Burke, 1912-1994, was born in Montreal and raised in Vancouver. In 1949 he married Rosina Head, 1914- , and they had two sons, Richard and Lewis. He fought with the Canadian Scottish in the Second World War, and with the 3rd Battalion PPCLI in the Korean War. He later worked as the military history curator at the Glenbow-Alberta Institute, 1966-1977.
Scope and Content:
The fonds consists of Lewis' Second World War and Korean War military papers and memorabilia; John's First World War and Second World War military papers; military photographs of the Burkes; and embroidered First World War postcard sent to Rosina Burke by her father.
