History:
K.F. Anderson, 1866-1949, was born in Rejkjavik, Iceland, and came to Canada in 1887. He worked at railway construction and then joined the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) in 1889. In 1894, while a corporal, he was stationed at Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. He was made a sergeant in 1896 and transferred to Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. In 1898 he was in charge of Grand Rapids, Manitoba detachment. In 1900 he was mail courier on a northern patrol. During 1902 and 1903 he helped erect NWMP log barracks and buildings. In 1905, he married Lelia Alberta Halpenny, a former missionary at Whitefish Lake, Alberta. The couple had three children, Norman, Charles, ca. 1908-, and Celia Margaret Peace (Robinson). While stationed at Peace River Crossing, Alberta in 1915, K.F. Anderson was appointed Inspector. Later that year, he was transferred to Grouard, Alberta. In 1917 he was transferred to Fort Fitzgerald, NWT where he served until his discharge in 1921. He retired to Peace River and Jasper, Alberta. For further information see Keeping the Peace : K. F. Scope and Content:
The fonds consists of photocopies and/or transcripts of his Mounted Police diaries (1894, 1896-1899, 1901, 1904-1912, 1915-1920, notebooks containing case evidence and accounts (1898, 1901, 1912, 1916, 1919-1920, 1923-1929), and biographical information. Includes family photographs.
RECORDS RELATED TO THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS ARE ALSO IN THIS FONDS: Athabasca River, Athapaskan Indians, Fond du Lac (Saskatchewan), Hudson's Bay Company (HBC), Klondike gold rush, David Laird, Lesser Slave Lake, Metis, and Treaty 8.
