John Haddin, 1880-1962, was born in Scotland. He was educated at the Royal Technical College in Glasgow, and received his BSc in civil engineering from the University of Alberta in 1926. He had a long career in engineering, which began with the Glasgow firm of Niven and Haddin, 1896-1906. He moved to Toronto and worked for John Galt Engineering Company, 1907-1916. When Galt died, Haddin and Edmund L. Miles took over the company and renamed it Haddin and Miles, Ltd., with offices in Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver. By 1920 all work was handled out of the Calgary office. In 1950 the company name became Haddin, Davis and Brown, including new partner John Elwood "Jack" Davis, 1924-2014. The firm specialized in the design and supervision of construction of waterworks, sewerage systems, and irrigation works, and was involved in projects in towns and irrigation districts all over Alberta. Haddin also investigated the development of coal properties in the Kananaskis area. He married Mary Carroll in 1927.
