History:
Hugh Beynon Hesketh-Biggs, 1876-1941, was born in Lahore, India and emigrated to the Rosebud Valley area west of Drumheller, Alberta in 1893. He bought the Springfield Ranche that same year, and in 1906 married Mabel Florence James, 1881-1970. Mabel emigrated from Guernsey, England in 1903 and worked as a nurse before her marriage. The Biggs had four daughters, Marion Phyllis, 1909-, Doris (Hutchinson), Rachael (Kilsdonk), 1915-, and Agnes 'Bud' (also called Myrtle), 1925-1998. The town which grew up around the Springfield Ranche was named Beynon after Hugh. Scope and Content:
The fonds consists of photographs of the Beynon area (1893-ca. 1910), the Biggs family and the Springfield Ranche (1893-1924), the CNR survey and construction near Beynon (ca. 1911-1912), and native personalities (1900s).
