History: The Happy Hours Kindergarten group was established in Calgary, Alberta in 1950 by Mrs. D.M. Arbuthnott and Frances Roessingh, 1919-2000, as a private kindergarten for children in their pre-school year. By 1973 Happy Hours had kindergartens in eleven locations. The group was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1970 and became a member of the Calgary Association of Community Kindergartens, when it came under the supervision of the Calgary Public School Board. All staff were qualified teachers. At the request of the Happy Hours group, the Calgary Board of Education took over operation of the kindergartens in 1975.
Scope and Content: The fonds consists of incorporation documents, minutes, annual reports, correspondence, grant applications, financial statements, class lists, inventories of supplies and photographs of teachers and children.
