History: The Freshfield Mutual Telephone Co. near Balzac, Alberta, was incorporated in 1936 as a local cooperative. Alberta Government Telephones' rural services were transferred to local companies, such as FMT, as an economy measure during the depression. By 1970 Freshfield began to phase out of operation, and in 1972 its charter was cancelled and the company was reacquired by AGT.
Scope and Content: The fonds consists of bylaws, incorporation documents, agreement with AGT, minutes, correspondence, area plans, maintenance reports, telephone line maps, ledgers and financial statements.
