Ernest Thomas Brown, 1876-1950, was born in Brighton, England. He trained as an architect at Guelph, Ontario. He later served as the deputy minister of public works in the Saskatchewan government, and was responsible for designing the legislative buildings in Regina. After he left Regina in 1914 he was involved in various building projects in Alberta and British Columbia. He came to Calgary in 1939, and was the resident architect with the Dominion government, 1941-1945. He designed the Marquis Hotel in Lethbridge, and at the time of his death was architect in charge of the Radium Hot Springs project. Following his death, Allan Mogridge and Alfred Hodges purchased the practice. He and his wife, Frances, had two daughters, Dorothy (Aspinwall) and Audrey (Severson), ?-1969. Scope and Content:
The fonds consists of E.T. Brown's architectural plans (1927-1950), project cashbooks and ledgers (1945-1950), building specifications, income tax returns, and miscellaneous personal papers. Includes Audrey Brown's Glencoe Club skating records (1955-1968). Includes photographs of architect's renderings and construction of the Radium Hot Springs development.
