History: The Consumers Association of Canada, an outgrowth of the Women's Section of the Wartime Prices and Trade Board which existed during the Second World War, was formed in 1947 as a women's voluntary non-profit association. It was incorporated in 1962. Its objectives are to inform consumers, lobby government and advise manufacturers of consumer response to their products. It tests products and publishes reports in Canadian Consumer magazine. The branch in Calgary, Alberta was formed in 1958 and remained active until it was dissolved in 1985. Its projects included an annual Toy Fair and an annual directory of consumer services in Calgary.
Scope and Content: The fonds consists of bylaws, minutes, correspondence, scrapbooks, newsletters and cashbook. Includes a Tom Innes cartoon regarding the Better Business Bureau.
