College of Alberta School Superintendents fonds
5.2 m of textual records
Alberta school superintendents first met as a group in 1958, at the instigation of T.C. Byrne, Chief Superintendent of Schools. The group held highly successful meetings over the next five years, to discuss teacher certification, curriculum, school buildings, educational research, and other topics. The group was incorporated in 1963 as the Alberta Urban School Superintendents Association. The name was changed to the Conference of Alberta School Superintendents in 1968 when the constitution was amended to allow all locally appointed Superintendents to be members. The objectives of CASS are to promote, develop and maintain the education and efficiency of Alberta superintendents, to promote fellowship and the interchange of ideas, and to bring about action on matters of common concern. By 1996 the name of the organization had been changed to the College of Alberta School Superintendents.
