Calgary Printing Trades Union. Local 1 fonds
1.5 m of textual records. -- 2 photographs
The Calgary Newspaper Printers' Association was organized in Calgary, Alberta in 1935, when members of the typographical staff of the Calgary Herald seceded from the International Typographical Union of North America. Its first president was Percy Stead. The new organization applied for a charter with the All-Canadian Congress of Labour in June 1935, and became part of the Canadian National Printing Trades Union when the national union was registered in 1938. The Calgary local changed its name to the Calgary Printing Trades Union Local 1 in that same year. The union represents printers, machine operators and machinists of line and type-casting devices, and proofreaders.
