History: The Calgary Medical Society was established in 1906 as a social club and forum of discussion for local physicians. It was incorporated under the Alberta Societies Act on March 14, 1929 with the stated objectives of cultivating the science of medicine and surgery, advancing the medical profession and promoting public health. It currently acts as an advocacy group with respect to medical issues, is a liaison with the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Alberta Medical Association, and provides professional support and social events for members. The membership includes physicians from Calgary and the district surrounding the city.
Scope and Content: The fonds consists of incorporation documents (1929), minutes (1927-1932, 1936-1955, 1973-1990), library committee minutes (1935-1953), correspondence (1927-1933, 1947-1990), complaints about doctors (1951-1980), membership information sheets (1986-1988) and account books (1946-1960, 1980-1989).
