History: The Bankview Community Association was established in Calgary, Alberta in 1954. Its central focus from 1976 to 1982 was the Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP) prepared for the Bankview Communities by the City. In 1979, a Community Planning Advisory Committee was formed, composed of members of the BCA and the City Planning Department, and in 1980 a first draft was prepared. The plan dealt with the development and zoning of land. In 1980, a social planning counterpart, the Bankview Outreach Project, was developed when the BCA hired a community worker to research social needs and develop social recreational programs for the community.
Scope and Content: The fonds consists of minutes (1965-1982); files of various executive members, largely regarding the ARP (1976-1991); surveys and reports of "Bankview React", a community outreach project (1980-1982); petitions, affidavits and City of Calgary Planning Department reports about Bankview and Bankview ARP (1978-1981); circulars, minutes and newsletters of the Federation of Calgary Communities (1973-1980); a general ledger (1968-1982; zoning, park and housing plans (1970-1982); and maps and newspaper clippings relating to Bankview area.
